General Claims

To enable completion of the claim without delay and minimise damage or injury it is important that the following steps be taken:

  • Take all reasonable steps following an accident or loss to protect the property or person from any further injury.
  • Do not admit liability or take any action which could be construed as an admission of liability.
  • Advise to your Account Manager immediately of any claim or potential claim.
  • Complete all claims documents, and if any assessor is required, assist him/her with their enquiries.
  • Forward claims documentation, including any supporting documents, without delay to us.
  • If you have any queries or experience any difficulties or problems whatsoever, please let your Account Manager know immediately.

Motor Vehicle Claims

  • Stop at the scene of the accident. Do not admit or accept any liability.
  • If there is any personal injury take whatever action is necessary to preserve life and then notify the relevant authorities.
  • Record the other party’s details:
      • make and model of vehicle;
      • registration number;
      • drivers name and address;
      • owners name and address;
      • Insurer of the vehicle.
  • Note the extent of damage to the other vehicle.
  • Obtain the names and addresses of any witnesses and get a statement from them if possible. This will be important to secure reimbursement of your excess and retain your No Claims Bonus if the accident is not your fault.
  • If the police attend note the officer’s name and which station he/she is from.
  • Repairs to Your Vehicle:
      • Notify your Account Manager who will arrange appointment of an assessor if necessary.
      • If the vehicle is not driveable:
          • arrange for it to be towed to the nearest reputable repairer;
          • obtain a quotation for the cost of repairs.
      • If the vehicle is drivable preferably obtain two quotations from reputable repairers.
      • If no assessor is required complete a claim form and forward it with the quotations to your Account Manager.
      • If an assessor is required leave the quotations and completed claim form with the car when you take it to the repairers for assessment.
  • Third Party Claims:
    • Under no circumstances should the driver or anyone make any statement which implies acceptance of liability or admission of fault.
    • Notify your Account Manager of the circumstances of the accident.
    • Complete a claim form and forward to your Account Manager.
    • Immediately on receipt of any correspondence relating to the Third Party claim forward it to your Account Manager and advise the Third Party that you have done so, and that all further dealings should be with us and your Insurers.
